Resumen

The Valparaíso Metropolitan area concentrates the urban population from the six commons (diatricts) belonging to Vht Región. The Metropolitan inhabitant represents the secondary demographic volume in the whole country. This population ha an irregular from in its unbalanced geographical distribution, between the different urban spaces and each own interior spaces. The secharacteristics are aggravated by teh Metropolitan space with an irregular topography and also to decline the economic activities. Valparaíso and Viña put together 79% of the population and insidex the both cities. 70% of the people reside in the "cerros" (hill-sides) bringing serious problems in the appointment and urban trasport. The Metropolitan area increases with an upper rhythm to the province, in 1970 offset 73% the provincial people. The demographic variability in the urban space are opposet and very considerable. In Valparaíso the increase and decrease have a grent relation with the urban satellite space. The increase in Viña, Quilpué, Villa Alemana, etc. Is due to the Valparaíso people emigration (exodus). In 1970 the Valparaíso total population is yet most negative, because in the periode 1960/70 from Valparaíso it emigrated 45.045 inhabitants to the Metropolitan area.
