Perfil de pacientes diabéticos bajo control en el CESFAM Barros Luco

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) has a national prevalence near of 4.2% and world ranging from 2 to 5%. Its complications are associated with poor metabolic control and cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF), so that managing and reducing these is the main purpose of DM control programs Objective: To characterize clinically patients with type 2 DM who were seen in the cardiovascular program of CESFAM Barros Luco (San Miguel district, metropolitan area) during July-December 2010. Patients and methods: Observational, descriptive and analytical, with non-probability sampling, reviewing control records of chronic cardiovascular program from July to December 2011 in CESFAM Barros Luco. Results: The study included 220 patients, of whom 60.0% were female and 40.0% men. Average age: 64.98 years. A 41.36% of patients are obese, a value significantly increased in women over 60 years. A 39.54% of patients have HbA1c score greater than 7%, and 77.72% had LDL cholesterol above 100 mg / dL. A 50.9% had poor control of blood pressure. Discussion: The charasteristics of Type 2 DM in the studied population were the predominance in elderly, obese and females. Moreover, the vast majority of cases were higher than optimal LDL and about 60% had good metabolic control with HbA1c below 7%. These figures shed light on the special care must be taken with female patients and older, and specific deficiencies that exist in the management of diabetic patients in CESFAM Barros.
