Due to the importance of training professionals for the Costa Rican merchant marine, the degree has been taught at the UCR since 2012. After 10 years, a new Study of Academic Relevance and Administrative Feasibility (EPF) was undertaken, in addition to the Curricular Redesign Study, to adapt the degree to new times. This justified addressing the thematic proposal. The objective of the work is to analyze three relevant philosophical attributes: epistemology, ontology and axiology, with the intention of presenting a theoretical construct that contributes to the decision-making of the renewed curriculum that is in the making. Given the nature ofthe study, it focused on qualitative research, using the documentary research method. Its design was flexible, as it was built while the work was being carried out, being purposeful and focused on exploration. The frame of reference was represented by research reports, journal articles and books. In conclusion, it is stated that the discipline of the career is maritime transport, and the object of study is the ship. At an axiological level, it is conceived that the most expeditious way for the student bodyto assume relevant ethical values is through organizational socialization.
