The aim of this review is to contribute to the discussion related to the types of evaluation towards the subject of school Physical Education, through the importance to formative and shared assessment as a method to obtain valuable information about student progress and the teaching process. Through the review, it is intended to provide summarized information on how formative assessment can contribute to student motivation, engagement, curriculum evaluation, and identification of content needs as well as promoting the overall health and well-being of students. In the same way, it is intended to illuminate the main transformations that evaluation has experienced in the discipline of Physical Education, tensioning paradigms related to physical-sports performance and athletic improvement versus promoting the comprehensive development of the student community and the evolution towards an inclusive and holistic school Physical Education.
