Abstract

This study presents the family, economic, and work-related factors influencing the academic trajectories of seventh- and eighth-semester students in the Bachelor's Degree in Educational Sciences at the Autonomous University of Tlaxcala. These students were selected for meeting the desired inclusion criteria to explore, compare, and evaluate their academic paths. The research is exploratory in nature, including both descriptive and comparative stages. A purposive probabilistic sample of 45 students aged between 18 and 22 was used. The comparison considered the semester of enrollment in the degree program: Cycle I (August) and Cycle II (January). The instrument was developed based on the operationalization of variables and a congruence matrix structured around three dimensions: family, economic, and social. Findings indicate that the main disadvantages students face in continuing their studies stem from their families' limited financial resources. Moreover, female students face greater challenges, making their education a test of resilience and continuous effort from the start and throughout their academic journey. Emotional, practical, and financial support from parents and relatives is essential for successfully completing university studies.
